Vaping Facts

Choppa’s vaping facts you need to know

In contrast to smoking, which has endured endless research and is widely known for its health implications, vaping is not spoken about very often. However, when it does make the headlines, vaping gets its fair share of fact and fiction, making it hard to figure out which is which!

If you are thinking about quitting the cigarettes but not too sure if vaping is a good next move, or maybe you’re just curious about your e-cigarette, check out all the facts we have lined up for you below!

Control: E-cigarettes allow you to take control over your nicotine intake

This one is a real bonus! E-liquid comes in a variety of nicotine strengths, allowing you to choose the amount that’s right for you. Vaping gives you a lot of control over what goes into your lungs and is completely adaptable. If you need more nicotine, simply go up in strength. If you fancy an icy kick, pick up a menthol flavour. The possibilities are endless!

Harmless?: Second-hand vapour is strongly believed to be less harmful than second-hand smoke.

As quoted from the NHS website, ‘There is no evidence so far that vaping causes harm to other people around you. This is in contrast to smoking, where exposure to secondhand smoke is known to be very harmful to health’. In addition to this, Public Health England’s Independent Evidence Review (2018) stated to date, there have been no identified health risks of passive vaping to bystanders.

Odours: Vaping doesn’t produce lingering noxious odours

One of the great advantages about vaping is the vapour does not linger in the air or on your belongings! Have you ever walked past the sweet smell of blue raspberry or apple pie? That was probably someone vaping! No nasty burnt tobacco smells here! Vapour breaks down extremely quickly and does not taint anything around it. Your clothes and hair will always be smelling fresh! To a lot of people, the smell is barely noticeable which is ideal in a social setting.

Physical health: E-cigarettes pose a fraction of a risk in comparison to smoking cigarettes

Leading health organisations including British Medical Association and Cancer Research UK agree e-cigarettes are far less harmful to your health than smoking. Public Health England and the Royal College of Physicians estimate e-cigarette’s to be at least 95% less harmful based on current evidence.

There is no smoke production in vaping due to no combustion, meaning no carbon monoxide or tar build up – the main culprits behind long-term smoking related health issues.

Pattern: Vaping is an effective means of quitting smoking

Research shows that when trying to quit, a large majority of smokers struggle to know what to do with their hands after they stop. Vaping allows this hand habit to be kept busy in the same way as a cigarette. This also supports the physical act of inhaling and exhaling which gum and other smoking cessation methods fail to provide.

A second struggle many smokers come across is the social side to smoking. Maybe in a beer garden or outside a club, at a friend’s party or even the bus stop! Vaping allows this habit to continue, without the dangers of smoking!

Attentive: In the UK e-cigarettes are tightly regulated for safety and quality.

From detailed ingredient lists, to packaging and label requirements, the vaping industry must abide by a large number of regulations. To start, bottles containing nicotine cannot be sold any larger than 10ml, with the highest strength cutting off at 18mg. Before being released to consumers, all e-liquid and every other vaping product must be submitted and approved to pass TPD compliance. As long as you buy from a reputable name in the industry, your products will have passed these tests and be safe for consumption.

Substance: E-liquid ingredients are commonly used in other products we consume.

When people say ‘we don’t know what’s in these things’ – that’s not mainly true. Regulated e-liquid only has 3-4 ingredients:

VG – Vegetable Glycerine, often found in toothpaste to stop it hardening in the tube

PG – Propylene Glycol, often found in asthma inhalers

Flavouring – The same food-grade flavourings used in baking, can be natural or artificial

                Nicotine – Pharmaceutical-grade

You will often find the ingredients listed on an e-liquids product page online, or on the packaging itself.
