Vaping News July 2021

Geekvape E100 (Aegis Eteno)

Here at Choppa Vapes, we like to keep up with what’s going on in the vaping industry. Vaping is often pushed out of the spotlight, so we have decided to source the most interesting updates and share them with you!

Here are the three most talked about this month!

Free e-cigarettes for smokers in A&E

Although often proven to be a fantastic ‘help to quit’ aid, e-cigarettes are not offered to smokers via the NHS, yet!

However, hospitals in Norfolk, London, Leicester and Edinburgh will be handing out free e-cigarette starter kits as part of a trial to some smokers coming into A&E for any medical reason. In comparison, they will provide information leaflets and details of local smoking-cessation services to a second group of smokers. Researchers will then reach out to both groups after one, three and six months to find out if they still smoke.

Fingers crossed this will be a step in the right direction for both the help to quit campaign and the vaping industry, instilling more trust into e-cigarettes amongst the public.

Does vaping make you more susceptible to Covid-19?

There has been a lot of talk in the media over the question ‘does vaping make you more likely to catch Covid-19?’ so we couldn’t resist doing some research ourselves! The main problem is, when a single study shows results to prove this to be the case, the press run with it regardless of the multiple studies suggesting otherwise. Scaremongering at its best!

Does vaping make you more susceptible to Covid-19

A key study that appears to have been overlooked was by the Mayo Clinic. Out of almost 70,000 vapers and smokers, only 5% tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, concluding that (and also the title of their journal) ‘Electronic cigarette use is not associated with Covid-19 diagnosis’. – https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/21501327211024391

The conclusion we have come to is that vaping does not have an effect on how likely you are to contract the virus, and certainly won’t be changing up our habits! However, we will leave you to make your own mind up over the matter!

Homeless offered free e-cigarettes

Smoking is extremely common amongst the homeless. However, not only is this an expensive habit, the difficulties of living on the street magnify the health complications smoking causes!

Luckily, a trial run by London South Bank University and University College London is looking to bring positive change! In this trial, people on the streets will be offered free e-cigarettes to test if these successfully help aid quitting smoking.

240 e-cigarettes will be given out across five parts of the UK including England, Wales and Scotland, with a further 240 people offered care group sessions. The results will then be compared to see if e-cigarettes did indeed offer greater success in quit rates. If found to be successful, homeless centres may adopt this approach in future, helping to reduce the risk of smoking-related diseases in the homeless.

We can’t wait to see the results!
